I’m a plus sized girl [size 18] and I was wondering if anyone knew where a good place to get a homecoming dress would be. The department stores never carry my size and I just don’t know who else sells cocktail dresses. I want to be able to find cute dresses in cute colors in my size.

Monday, May 31st, 2010Ive been with my fiance for 3 years now & we were in the middle of planning a wedding when I just found out 4 weeks ago that Im pregnant. We told our parents & they were happy & surprised. My fiance & I discussed whether or not we will have a little quick wedding with just us before the baby is born or have the baby & proceed with our original wedding as planned sometime when we can afford a bigger wedding. But, here is the thing – we havent discussed any of this with my fiances mother, just the baby news & me being pregnant. So, as far as she knows, we never said we were going to go get married right now. I feel like she is the religious type who wont say so, but thinks down on us having a baby out of wedlock (hello! it’s 2009!! times have changed!) and I checked my email tonight & she sent me a link to a plus sized wedding gown that she said “she thought I would look beautiful in” Half of me is like thanks for thinking of me, but the other half is offended because is she trying to hint for us to get married right now? And Im only 8 weeks pregnant so Im not that plus sized, that was a little ballsy of her as well. I just feel like we are grown adults, he’s 32 & Im 29 & we can make our own decisions. What do you all think of her doing this? Thoughtful or rude??

Wow, you are very judgemental aren’t you? I personally dont care what other people do with their lives to give it a second thought. I don’t care what other people think either. My main focus is the health of my baby. Whether we decide to marry now or later after the baby is born, is our decision – not my fiances mother or anyone else. We are the ones living our lives & a piece of paper isnt going to change anything. It’s the fact that we never discussed our wedding plans after the pregnancy w/ her that she assumes & emails me an ugly dress that we will do what she considers the “right thing to do” that annoys me. I can see if I asked for her help, advice, opinion or even told her we were planning on getting married now, but she is being pushy in my opinion & doing it in a way where I cant really act mad other then ignore her & nip it in the bud if she keeps mentioning any wedding plans & tell her that my fiance & I will decide what we want to do & whats best for us.

I personally have never cared about whether or not someone had a child out of wedlock, it’s their business & wouldnt judge a person over it. There are bigger things in this world to deal with. And, with divorce rates so high, I dont think people should get married because they had a child either. I think having a child is a blessing and that should be the main focus. It sounds petty & immature that you have resented your parents for their decisions. Be appreciative to be alive & healthy!
I dont resent my future mother in law. I know she is a nice person, but I can tell that she is thinking without coming out & saying it, that we should be married before the baby is born & this was her way of saying it without saying it.
The thing that annoys me is that my fiance & I never said we were going to get married anytime soon. Our original wedding was planned for Aug 2010. The fact that she assumes that we are going to do what she thinks is the “right thing to do” is pushy & judgemental. There are no rules to having a child & getting married later when we can have a nice wedding & I lose baby weight, plus have our child in the wedding. Its ultimately OUR decision to do whats right for us & the baby. This isnt Leave it to Beaver days where its uncommon to have a child out of wedlock. And, if I wanted a maternity wedding dress, I can look for one myself in the style that I would actually wear, not something ugly.
Advice for plus sized wedding gown shopping?
Wednesday, May 19th, 2010I’m currently a size 22…on Weight Watchers and hoping to drop a few sizes prior to my wedding, but it is time to start looking for THE DRESS. I plan to order in my current size and take it in if I do drop sizes.
I’ve researched online and found a few dresses that I love. My concern is if the salons and shops have only sample sizes of like 10 or 12 how do I try the dresses on to find out if I love the dress on me?
I’m very stressed about this and I just want to enjoy the whole experience. Looking for advice how to handle this “problem”

Sunday, April 18th, 2010Ok, so I am starting a new business. I have a friend who can look at a picture of any kind of clothes and then make a pattern and make the outfit and it looks perfect! So anyway, I have so many plus sized friends and they are always complaining about how hard it is for them to find trendy, cute clothes. So I am going find pictures of trendy clothing and then make them into plus sizes, I will be using some of my own designs as well. I think everyone has the right to look cute and feel good about themselves. So I want to know what kinds of things do you girls see in the stores that you wish you could wear? Sunday, April 18th, 2010I dress like kind of a nerd (actually really just for comfort) but im going into the 10th grade, so i dont wanna come off as so immature so i would like to get some ideas on where to shop from, but not too expensive, cause well jeans fit my thighs…so everything is falling off of me…i like low rise jeans
I am 14 years old, 5′ 9″ and I weigh 150-155 pounds. I am black so as the steroyo-type goes…I carry alot of baggage in the buttox…My measurements are 34-25-35. So the pants are always bigger in the waist…But i like my butt… have A LOT of muscle…but i have nice legs they say…but my thighs can kill THEY ARE HUGE and they rub together…can you please share some insight on clothing?
my tummy is already flat, im not flabby, just bulky in the thigh (i run and dance)… but honestly i dont know what size i wear since all my stuff are too big. but i think im like a 4-5?

Thursday, April 15th, 2010I’ve found a few (and I do stress a FEW) other stores that offer sexy, fashionable, figure-flattering outfits. But I’m getting tired of Lane Bryant, quite frankly. Isn’t there a market for sexy, full-figured (NOT fat) sistas to dress fashionably?
I have shopped at Torrid along with Ashley Stewart (we don’t have one where I live, but I have shopped there when I lived in Virginia). These are great places!
